Southwest Louisiana Charter Academy has partnered with The Whistle Stop for the second year to provide a unique experience for our fifth grade students. Stu-dents participated in the Dancing Classroom program provided by The Whistle Stop twice a week for ten weeks during their physical education time. The stu-dents learned multiple dances such as the Rumba, Merengue, Swing, and the Tango. This program pro-vides more than just dancing skills. Students also gained self-confidence to help them face various chal-lenges in their life. At first, just getting male and female partners to do “pancake hands” was a challenge, but after the ten weeks was over, the students showcased their newly learned moves for parents, friends, and family with ease, grace, and precision. After the show-case, five pairs of students were selected to represent Southwest Louisiana Charter Academy in the state wide Dancing Classroom competition called “Colors of the Rainbow”. The competition was held on Sunday, May 3rd at the Burton Coliseum in Lake Charles, Loui-siana. Our students looked so grown up in their sharp suits and flowing dresses. All of our dancers did in-credibly well and made SWLCA proud! We are excited to announce that the group took gold overall and moved onto the state championship competition held that say day. Two pairs of our dancers competed and did all five dances! In the state championship, the SWLCA dancers were first runners up! The Dancing Classroom program was a great way to get stu-dents to work together towards a common and Build the Team.
